| Overview | bromocresol green is also known as 3,3 ', 5,5'-tetrabromo-m-cresol sulfonyl phthalate, gamma-sultone. The precipitates from acetic acid were fine, pale yellow crystals. Relative molecular mass 698.05. The melting point was 218-219 °c. Slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ethyl ether, ethyl acetate and benzene. Very sensitive to alkali, alkaline aqueous solution was a special blue-green. Bromocresol green can be used as an indicator, which is yellow at pH = 3.8 and blue-green at pH = 5.4. |

| preparation | A preparation method of bromocresol green, the steps are as follows:(1) 1.5 of bromine was dissolved in 1.25 L of glacial acetic acid solution to obtain bromine-glacial acetic acid mixture;(2) 2kg of pure m-cresol Violet was dissolved in 2.5 L of glacial acetic acid;(3) the bromine-glacial acetic acid mixture obtained in step (1) is slowly dropped into the solution in step (2) at a temperature not exceeding 80 ° C.
